Our Story
For me, there’s not much better than a hard days work in a shop. The constraints of life have always been a struggle to some degree for me. Whether it’s being restricted to one profession forever, one degree plan or worst yet…one office. A corner office and being inside on plush furniture in the A/C may be a dream for some, but for me, it would be a nightmare. It stifles my creativity and makes me anything but my best self. From early on I had a proclivity to prefer playing outside and getting dirty. I have always preferred making things and creating. I’m an avid learner who will always continue to expand my education. However, I actually enjoy getting my hands dirty. I love coming up with an idea and then making that idea come to life. It brings me great joy to feel my arms ache from carrying heavy wood and to look in the mirror and see black charcoal marks on myself knowing that charcoal sat inside a barrel of whiskey for years. It has a past life that I can literally smell. Weird? Maybe, but, it makes me feel like I’ve put in the work required to transform something into a whole new piece. I’ve given it a whole new life. I also love power tools and heavy equipment. At Woodshack Design, we try to reuse as much of our materials as we can. The concept of refurbishing wood that has had a previous life is so much more appealing than purchasing new lumber. It has character that’s hard to replicate. Not all of our pieces go through such a journey to get into your hands. Some of them are simply transformed by your personalization. However, they all have a rugged quality and material that makes them fit perfectly in our shop. We’ve been described as having an industrial farmhouse style. I’m not sure what I’d call it but, I just go with the things that I like and I hope you like them just as much! We also love custom work. Have an idea or need a custom piece? It’s what we thrive on. Let us hear about it and we’ll come up with the perfect piece to adorn your home or office!
